This seminar, designated "The Search for the Kootenai Past," was held in Libby on 21-23 July 1978, to explore the archaeological/historical issue of Kootenai Indian culture in the Kootenai River drainage of northwestern Montana and southern British Columbia. Speakers consider: archaeological investigations of Kootenai inhabitation in the area; links between the disciplines of history and archaeology (Harry Fritz); criticism of Anglo research and of Anglo interpretation of Kootenai archaeological findings (Kootenai tribal members); and the American bison.
